I'm a third-decade home educator to five children. From colic to the Common App, diapers to driver's ed, I enjoy the journey and have the wrinkles laugh lines to prove it. We've traipsed on field trips to the Field (Museum), in a field, and far afield. We jot our thoughts along the way, sketch our impressions, and even translate our Tuesday Tea Times to the high school transcript.

Within the homeschooling community, I have taught or organized creative writing classes, literature clubs, planning high school workshops, public speaking clubs and contests, Science Olympiad teams, competitive math clubs, and parent support groups. My articles have been featured in Practical Homeschooling and Home School Enrichment. When I'm not coaching at Brave Writer, I serve as a college admission consultant to homeschoolers and their families at Thoughtful Homeschooling. One goal yet unmet in my homeschooling career is to have a month—just one!—where I don't owe any library fines. Two hundred fifty-two months and counting.

Prior to home educating, I taught social studies in a public high school, and in a Coalition of Essential Schools program. I received an MA in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with High Honors from Binghamton University with a BA in History and Philosophy.

I am a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association, where I founded and chair the homeschool affinity group. In 2021, I served as a faculty member for IECA’s Summer Training Institute and am an inaugural recipient of IECA’s “Making a Difference” award.
